If you are one of the many applicants who are eager to apply and comply with Australian citizenship, now is the time for you to gather all the necessary information on how you can process your requirements ahead of time.
Your route to citizenship can be thrilling and nerve-wracking. It is important for you to understand how you can get citizenship in many ways and how many attempts are allowed if you have unfortunately failed your citizenship test.
There are many ways of determining if you are eligible to apply or not. In this article, we will be discussing a thorough guide on how you can process your Australian citizenship requirements swiftly and easily.
Applying for citizenship through conferral
You are eligible to apply for citizenship through conferral if you are a spouse of an Aussie citizen, if you are a child of a former Aussie resident, if you are a refugee if you are born in Papua before their national independence, if you are New Zealand or British citizen residing in Australia for a long period of time, and if you are a part of the group under commonwealth child migration program.
If you are under these categories, you can apply and obtain Australian citizenship completely.
New Australian residency requirement
If accepted by Parliament, candidates for Australian citizenship will be required to have a minimum of four (4) years of permanent residence preceding their application for citizenship with no more than one year spent outside Australian borders during that time frame.
Citizenship through adoption
There is also a process by which a child can automatically become an Australian resident if the child is adopted by an Aussie citizen.
But this case still varies depending on whether the adoption took place and was made official in Australia or in other states.
Test for English proficiency
All the applicants are required to take up the English language test before they take the citizenship exam.
If accepted by the Parliamentary, all candidates will be expected to show their proficiency in the English language by completing a stand-alone English examination that contains components for communicating, reading, writing, and listening.
Integration demonstration
Applicants that are authorised by Parliament will be required to demonstrate that they have adapted to Australian culture. They would be asked to provide proof of integration, such as tax payments, school enrollment for children, jobs, and even club memberships.
How many attempts are allowed for the citizenship test?
The current rules specify that after three failed citizenship examinations, the claimant must wait two years before retaking the exam.
Candidates who cheat on their exams will also be rejected for citizenship.
